Jay Pitts

Justin Pitts, better known by his stage name JayPitts, is an American rapper and singer from Detroit, MI. His music pulls from the soulful sounds of Detroit & his African roots as well as some of his favorite artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Lauryn Hill, Andre 3000, and Kendrick Lamar. He quickly made a name for himself in 2018 as he gained recognition from his single “Yellow” which became the soundtrack for natural hair and makeup videos all over YouTube and Instagram. The lead single off of his 2020 album Highly Melanated, “Windows,” recently reached 3 Million streams on Spotify. “Windows” has been placed on the official playlist of the NBA and also featured on Ebro Darden’s Apple Music Beats 1 playlist. Jay has a clear focus on the impact of social media marketing, with TikTok becoming an accelerated vehicle for his music and his psych ward stories; Jay worked as a mental health technician at a psychiatric unit for several years. Jay just released his first EP of 2022, “Jay Against the Galaxy,” through distribution company Foundation Media.

VISION STATEMENT

I create because music is the best method I have to interpret the world around me. When I put things in song form, I feel I am most accurately expressing myself. Being an artist I didn’t think my music could impact so many people. Knowing my music’s power creates a healthy pressure that gives my art more weight and a stronger sense of purpose. It makes me feel like I have a responsibility to take my music as far as I can, and use everything i have to change the lives of others around me.
